I think at this point folks are just throwing around a bunch of different terms that usually have different technical meanings, but to them just means "not traditional male or female."
It's like how companies refer to customers as "consumers". There's a technical difference between a customer and consumer in marketing terms, but people use both words interchangeably at this point and nobody cares. (which is kind of sad... but we live in a "coke vs. pepsi" world where people try to over-simplify things, b/c they're either too stupid, too lazy, or both.)
