Is the "Discord Chat" link to Rule34.xxx the correct place to have Realbooru discussion? If it is, maybe setup a Realbooru section? If it's not, start a Realbooru Discord?

I don't feel like making a whole new discord server, what about just a channel instead?

I'm pretty new to discord, but that's what I meant with "section".

How can you add a character tag to a new post. Can't see an option for that

Click on the "tags" tab at the top, then type in the tag you want to convert or if it's a new post you can scroll down and find it on the first page. Tag suggestions is helpful here, it should appear as you're typing it. Once you've found the tag, you can convert it from a "general" tag type to a "character" tag type. You could also copy and paste the tag into the search box to find it.

Two things: Should the girls name tags be classified as "character" or "artist"? Most seem to be under "character" right now, but wouldn't "artist" be more appropriate? Since the pictures aren't drawn or rendered, and we don't really care who took the picture, just the subject? If the girls were classified as artists then for example if Jessica Nigri is cosplaying Mei from Overwatch then the tags would be "jessica_nigri", "mei_(overwatch)" and "overwatch" as artist, character and copyright tags respectively.

Second thing. About the webm thumbnails. Can you change where in the video the thumb is generated from, because right now there are a whole lot of completely black thumbnails from taking the first frame as a source.

Yeah as of now i think the girls name should be under 'artist' and character if shes roleplaying. Just as you said.

Thumbnails for video's are generated for first second because before we had thumbnail generation fail duo to to short webms causing it to try and render out of bounds. So this is a technical limitation of the way we do the webms at this time.

Also @uNderdog_101 there is a #real channel on discord now.

Well in that case, is it possible to change the name of the tag type "artist" to something along the lines of "pornstar" in the future? A different font colour for this tag type would also help as it doesn't show up very well on top of the dark theme.

sort:score either :asc or :desc don't work as it should. Since it's same at rule34 is it intended? Maybe there is another way to sort? (I know I can use score:>%%number%% but I like "sort" more)

It would need to be more generic than "pornstar", since not everyone is.

Speaking of the "artist" tag type; the rules for tags need to be defined and written down somewhere, because I've changed some of them over from character to artist, but someone keeps changing them back.

Haha I didn't expect actors, actresses from movies and musicians etc to hop on board here like this. I feel like we shouldn't jump to defining the rules for these tag types just yet until we decide on this first, afterwards someone can make a thread outlining tag type usage. Then that could be stickied.

It gets a bit muddy since some people have multiple occupations like one person being both an actress and model. Some actresses aren't models you get the picture.

What should we use? What if another tag type was made exclusively for cosplay and we revert the "character" tag type back? It's a possible option.

How about "person"? That's a good option to me.

Decisions, decisions...

The problem I was referring to wasn't what category the tag of the name of the person in the photo should be called (currently "artist"), but that people keep changing the tag type from artist to character because the rules aren't made clear so they know that they are making an error.

As for what to call the tag category? I think the best option would be either "artist" or "model", preferably model. "Person" is just way too impersonal.

I think a "cosplay" tag type would be unnecessary, since this is a booru for photos of real people (or fakes of real people), all tags under the "character" category could be inferred to be cosplay of that character.

EDIT: I just noticed that the "iCame Top 100" is for characters, not artists. That's fine for for Rule34, but would need to be changed here, wouldn't it?

I'll just drop iCame and make a new tag type called model. Please move them to tag type model ;)

No, I did mention exactly what you're saying right now about the tag types. They haven't been keeping up in the forums in terms of posts, they probably don't know better until we make a thread about it. Afterwards, that thread can be stickied.

What about musicians then, are they models? Don't forget actresses from movies. The "artist" tag type is asinine and not sufficient at all when it comes to usage in a broader sense.

Yeah, I didn't think the revert thing would be good - it was merely an option. I agree with you there.

I don't understand how "person" sounds impersonal but "model" doesn't? Using "model" is far more impersonal to me, much more objectified than "person".

"Person" does have some disadvantages though, chief among which is the distinction between real names and pseudonyms. That could definitely cause some problems. Using "person" could also be confusing when it concerns cosplaying, some people might convert "character" tag types to "person" as a result.

Regardless, any option is better than "artist". Personally, that one should not even be considered at all. I would be satisfied with "model".

EDIT: I see why you thought "person" is impersonal, I think "person" in hindsight is too vague. "Model" is perhaps the best option, despite how inaccurate it will be at times.

I feel the need to point out that English is a second language to me and while my skill with it IMO quite good, I sometimes fail at conveying exactly what I mean.

As for musicians and actresses being models, it's not referring to what they are in life, but what they are in the picture (or video clip, but whatever). For example Katy Perry may be a singer, but she's the model in this picture. A more descriptive word might be "subject", but like "person" it may be a bit too impersonal.

Pseudonyms shouldn't matter, they should both be categorized as model tags. I.E. Sandra Otterson should have both the tags "sandra_otterson" and "wifey", since while her real name may be Sandra, she is far more known as "Wifey".

"Model" will be just fine, now just to convert the name tags to that type and have them stay that way.

EDIT: Two small things that need addressing: First, when you click the "edit button in the tag list you got to the page where you can edit the type, after changing the type and committing the edit by pressing save the option in the dropdown goes back to the first option, "copyright".
Before "model" (needs to start with an upper case "M" in there, btw) was added it stayed as whatever you had decided to edit the tag to, and that was quite convenient, because you could keep the tab open and just paste the tag you wanted to recategorize into the "Name" field and press save, saving a lot of tedium.

Second, the text in that dropdown menu is too light, and can barely be read.
